James “Jim” William Bassett, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024.

Jim was born on July 19, 1948, to Charles and Vivian (Davis) Bassett in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Kimmie Hoskins in 1991 in Doniphan, Missouri.

Jim was of the Assembly of God faith. He was a proud competitor of the Senior Olympics for five years; traveling to St. Louis, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Murray, Kentucky. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed coaching tennis at Tower Grove Park in St. Louis. He also attended cooking school and took karate classes at one time. Jim was a jack of all trades and had no problem conquering anything he set his mind to. He was a hardworking and determined individual who enjoyed helping others. Jim was known to be very quick-witted. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to the ocean. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Kimmie Bassett; four children, Tonya Whitmore, James Bassett Jr, Garrett Bassett, and Kimberlee Bassett; two sisters, Gale Overmann and Marsha Humphery; two brothers, Mike McCormick and Chris McCormick; 14 grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Ann Meadows; two sisters, Kathy Bonner and Michelle Veteto.

Memorial gathering will be held from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, f at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Memorial service will follow beginning at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri or the Wounded Warrior Project.
