City offers free shuttles for eclipse

Tuesday, March 26, 2024

Shuttles will be available April 6 and 8 to help alleviate traffic congestion in Poplar Bluff for the music festival and eclipse. President of the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce Steve Halter explained the service will be free.

The chamber and the city are sponsoring five shuttles, each capable of taking 30 passengers.

Origins and destinations on April 6 include, “all hotels, Ray Clinton Park, to main shopping areas/restaurants and (the) downtown music festival,” Halter explained.

For the 8th’s eclipse, shuttles will focus on bringing viewers from lodging to designated viewing areas. The buses will be driven by Southeast Missouri Transportation Service drivers and will be available to both guests and residents.

One of the main intentions behind the service is to help clear Poplar Bluff’s major thoroughfares. As reported previously in the DAR, the chamber expects over 20,000 visitors.

Regarding the traffic, Halter remarked, “There are no silver bullets, but this will help.”
