Eclipse festivities continue to grow. The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce announced plans for a free downtown music festival led by an American Idol superstar on April 6.

“We decided to have a downtown music festival, and we wanted to have a big headliner. This is going to be a free event for the community,” Chamber President Steve Halter said Thursday during the announcement.

That headliner is Marybeth Byrd, a top 10 finalist on this year’s season of “American Idol.” Byrd is a country singer hailing from Armorel, a community near Blytheville, Arkansas. Besides her success on “American Idol,” she was a semifinalist on “The Voice” in 2019.

“We are so excited to have her, she is incredible,” said Morgan McIntosh, director of downtown development. She later added, “It’s so exciting to have someone so close do so well, then come back and perform.”

The 2024 Total Eclipse of the Bluff Music Festival is sponsored by Pepsi MidAmerica. McIntosh thanked the company for “doing an incredible job.”

“As we get closer we’ll announce some more events and more food truck opportunities, as well as more sponsorship opportunities and who else is going to be playing the rest of the day,” she explained. “We’re bringing in some folks from outside of Poplar Bluff and some locals that you know and love.”

Halter expressed his gratitude to the community and regional businesses who support and promote Total Eclipse of the Bluff and all the celebrations surrounding it.

“I want to thank all the people who’ve had an involvement in it. We’ve had so much incredible exposure,” he said.

In addition to the Total Eclipse of the Bluff Music Festival April 6, the Black River Coliseum will host artist Jeff Foxworthy on April 8.
