As soon as visitors crack the door to Brook Sweet’s business, The Earth & Water Bathhouse, they are met with a myriad of fresh, clean scents paired with the soothing sounds of water features.

Sweet has created a new line of therapeutic bathing products that has quickly gained popularity not only locally but has now made its way as far as upstate New York.

The Earth & Water Luxury Collection is a therapeutic bathing line Sweet created for her own business, which offers natural products, therapeutic bathing, sound bathing and several different natural products. She has created items for luxury bathing, detox and foot soaks.

The line was recently picked up by a resort spa called Mohonk Mountain House, located in Hudson Valley, New York.

“They picked up my Luxury Collection which is the milk bath, the mud bath and the sea bath,” Sweet explained. “The milk bath has lactic acid and it’s more of a beautifying bath. The mud bath has three different kinds of clay in it, so it’s more detoxifying and then the sea bath has dead sea salts and seaweed, so it’s literally like recreating the ocean.”

She said she created the line by being an esthetician and reading product ingredient labels.

“Most of them as you go down, you’re just like, what is this? So I really wanted to create something where people could literally look at the label, read it and go, ‘Oh, I know what each of these things is,’” said Sweet. “I use a lot of herbs and essential oils, ingredients you can read and recognize.”

Sweet explained why she created her line and essentially her business.

“I’ve decided to create something around the art of therapeutic bathing, it has been around forever, but I am trying to bring it back,” she said.

Sweet said with her business she wanted to bring awareness to the importance of “taking time for ourselves.”

“I think there is more of an awareness now of the use of things in nature, even down to our food and where our food is coming from, so this whole awareness of almost going back in time — to natural things,” Sweet believes.

According to Sweet, most of her products are pink Himalayan and Dead Sea Salt-based, which are true salts.

“These salts help to truly detoxify the body,” said Sweet. “That’s why I did this, being in the industry, then going from a brick and mortar to just a website base, for me, was hard because I like interaction. I like creating an environment for people to come to, so that is what I have done here.”

Sweet said she is excited for what the future holds, not only for her business but also for the more natural direction of things to come.

“I knew I created something special in the sense of the way I wanted it to be perceived, I didn’t want it to be just another product. I’m trying to create more of a lifestyle,” Sweet explained.

Earth & Water Bath House is located on Vine Street in historic Downtown Poplar Bluff. For more information on the products and services offered, check out her website at www.earthandwaterproducts.com.
