We value local organzations such as the Bread Shed

The Bread Shed is a local organization that touches the lives and hearts of many here in our area.

The organization is best known for providing food boxes and weekly meals to those in need, but the volunteers do so much more.

Several times a year, the Bread Shed gives away refurbished bicycles to area youth.

The initiative seeks to provided low-income and underprivileged youth in the community with refurbished bicycles, allowing them the opportunity to be children, explore and be active.

In order for this effort to be successful, the help of the community is vital.

The Bread Shed relies upon bicycle donations from individuals in the local area. Bikes that are donated are then sent to ‘bike rehab’ at Manchester UMC, which is located in Manchester, Missouri. From there, noble volunteers put in countless hours of work refurbishing and polishing the used bikes, giving them new life.

This program invests in the lives of area youth, by not only providing them with bicycles, but also by giving them hope and showing them the importance of giving back to your community.

We here at the Daily American Republic value the honorable efforts of the Bread Shed. This and similar organizations in the area are essential to our sense of community and belonging.

We hope the citizens of Poplar Bluff and the surrounding area will continue to rally around these charitable organizations as they have for so many years.

Investing in local programs and charities is an effective long-term solution to ensure all members of a community not only feel seen, but also have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
