Christy Pierce has been an important part of Butler County Publishing LLC for the past 34 years and the company is pleased to announce she has now accepted the role of general manager.

BCP includes the Daily American Republic, Dexter Statesman, The Prospect-News in Doniphan, and Insta Print.

Pierce will continue her role as advertising manager for the three newspapers.

Other than spending a few months working at a local grocery store after her high school graduation from Twin Rivers, Pierce has been with BCP all of her working career.

Chris Pruett, who serves as publisher for all BCP entities, made the announcement to employees Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m thrilled to announce Christy’s promotion. She has been a fixture in this community and area for years and knows the newspaper business inside and out. Her years of experience with Insta Print are just as valuable,” Pruett explained.

Pruett became publisher earlier this year of four additional newspapers, bringing the total to 11 — six in Missouri, two in Arkansas, and three in Indiana.

“Traveling to all the newspapers weekly and monthly made it clear to me I needed someone who would be in Poplar Bluff daily and can help with day-to-day operations with Butler County Publishing,” Pruett said.

“When I came to work in Poplar Bluff four years ago it was obvious Christy was already doing a lot of the work of a manager. We’ve worked together to help her prepare for this role. With her work ethic and loyalty to Butler County Publishing, I know she will succeed.”

Pruett will remain in his current role with BCP and the other newspapers.

Pierce started with BCP in October 1988 as a receptionist for the former Journal newspaper. She spent 20 years as manager of Insta Print, and in January 2010 became advertising manager for BCP.

“I am excited to step into the role of general manager for Butler County Publishing. I’m sure there will be bumps along the way, but I plan to do my best fulfilling this position,” Pierce said. “My heart is in this company and with the employees that work so hard every day to bring the news and printed materials to your doorstep.

“Having strong, local journalism is one of the most important ways to keep a community informed and I look forward to continuing to be a part of the bright future of the BCP.”

Pierce stressed the DAR, Dexter Statesman and The Prospect-News in Doniphan play vital roles in their communities and offer information no other source in the area can.

“We have dedicated employees who bring a wide variety of needed information to the public. News, sports, obituaries, business news, church news and much more. We want to be hyper-local with our coverage. No one covers this area like our newspapers,” she said.

Christy and her husband, Jamie, have been married for 33 years. Jamie is the assistant superintendent for the Poplar Bluff Municipal Utilities Water-Sewer Department.

They have two children, Taylor Bowen (Will) and Tucker Pierce (Kylee).
