Register Now: Fourth Annual Quilt Show

Thursday, September 1, 2022
Angie and Pam Shaver of Current River Fabrics and Quilting display the beautiful patchwork quilt which shall be awarded to one lucky winner Sept. 3, during the Fourth Annual Doniphan Quilt Show. The quilt, which will fit a queen- or king-sized bed, was stitched by the LOLLOL quilting club.

The fourth Annual Doniphan Quilt Show will provide opportunities to quilt lovers to show off one of their own special coverlets, to perhaps win a beautiful new quilt and have a new edge put on those dull kitchen knives and dressmaker’s shears.

Registration has been extended for the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 3, at the Doniphan Community Center.

Sponsors are Current River Fabrics and Quilting and the LOLLOL (little old ladies laughing out loud) quilting club.

Pam Shaver of Current River Fabrics and Quilting states, “Not only will we be having someone here to sharpen scissors, knives and shears, we will also have a display of antique sewing machines.”

The display will be set up throughout the show, and there will be a demonstration immediately following from 3 to 4 p.m.

“Last year we had about 50 quilts on display. This year we have extended the deadline for registration to allow more opportunity for people to bring in their quilts,” says Shaver.

Anything that is quilted qualifies for showing.

“We welcome all types, embellished or decal quilts, crazy quilts, vintage, old or new, and quilts can be any size,” she says.

“Entries can be wall hangings and art quilts as well as old family heirlooms and baby quilts.”

Entry forms can be picked up at Current River Fabrics and Quilting, and entries should be brought to the Ripley County Community Center from 2 to 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2.

Quilts may be hung or placed on a rack, if provided by the owner.

There is no entry fee for displayers age 18 and under. Entry fee for adults is $1.

Winners will be decided by “people’s choice” voting, and first, second and third place ribbons will be awarded. First place winner of the youth category will receive a gift certificate, and there will also be prizes for second and third place winners.

A beautiful quilt made by the LOLLOL quilting group will be raffled off during the event, says Pam.

The quilt to be given away is a beautiful queen-/king-sized patchwork style in varying shades of purple. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Proceeds will benefit the Backpacks for Friday program.
