FREE ACCESS: Area churches to host vacation Bible schools

Sunday, July 17, 2022

Four area churches are offering children and adults a chance to close out the hot summer holiday with Vacation Bible School. Each church is hosting a VBS in the last half of July.

Green Forest Church of Christ in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a VBS at their location at 2535 Township Line Road from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, to Wednesday, July 27.

The theme is Come and Sea: Master of Galilee. All the lessons, songs and Bible classes will feature Jesus’ travels around the sea of Galilee, said Minister Adam Noles. There will skits, crafts and lots of snacks, he said.

Sign-up is done the nights of the VBS. Noles urges all ages to show up.

“Bring the whole family,” Noles said.

There will teen and adult classes as well.

First Baptist Church of 551 N. Westwood Blvd. in Poplar Bluff is offering children from kindergarten to sixth grade the chance to experience Willie’s Redneck Rodeo. The unusual VBS theme is the product of the Robertson family of the hit TV show Duck Dynasty. It combines their sense of humor with the parables of Jesus to teach faith-based lessons.

The VBS will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on the days of Thursday, July 21, to Saturday, July 23.

Registration can be done through the registration link on the church’s Facebook page.

First Baptist Church at 308 Walnut in Doniphan will also be hosting a VBS from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on the evenings of Monday, July 25, to Friday, July 29.

The theme for the VBS is Zoomerang. Children attending will learn about the wildlife and culture of Australia by exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the outback, the eucalyptus forests and the modern cities of the coast lands.

There is a link for registration on the church’s Facebook page.

Doniphan United Methodist at 305 Plum St. will have their VBS Monday, July 25, to Friday, July 29. Children from ages 4-12 are invited to attend from 5:30-8 p.m.

The theme for their VBS is Food Truck Party: On a Roll with God.

“Christ talked about food all the time,” said Pastor Kent Wilfong. “He used food in his parables.”

Wilfong stressed the importance of VBS programs.

“Children are in the world all the time and one hour of church a week isn’t enough,” he said. “We’re doing our part to help them know Christ.”

Sign up for Doniphan United Methodist’s VBS can be done by showing up on the any night of the VBS, he said.
