The Daily American Republic and Money Mizer convenience store in Poplar Bluff have partnered to give away free fuel to eight lucky winners through drawings over the next four weeks.

Two winners will be drawn on each of the following dates: March 21, March 28, April 4 and April 11. The winners will each receive a $50 gift certificate valid for fuel only at the Money Mizer convenience store location at 615 E. Pine St. in Poplar Bluff.

According to AAA, Missouri’s average gas price per gallon now tops out around $3.85. Records indicate the state’s consumers are paying $1.26 more per gallon since this time last year.

DAR Publisher Chris Pruett said his goal for the giveaway is to “help area residents who are facing difficult times because of high inflation.” Pruett explained so many families are “facing difficult times” he hopes the free fuel will “help ease some of the burden” for these residents.

Tracy and Tami Edington of Poplar Bluff have owned and operated Money Mizer convenience store for the past 25 years. The Edingtons “are very proud of Poplar Bluff and proud to live here” and serve the local community, Tracy said the free gas will be “a little shot in the arm” for residents feeling the pinch of rising fuel costs.

He said the timing of the giveaway couldn’t be any better and he is simply glad to team up with the DAR to “bring a little joy to someone.”

Pruett is excited to partner with Money Mizer and added the DAR and Money Mizer are both family-owned businesses “who believe that local businesses should help local people.”

Participants may register for the drawings from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, March 14, through Monday April 11, at the DAR office, 208 Poplar St., in downtown Poplar Bluff. After each date’s winners are announced, all other entries will be discarded and participants will need to register again at the DAR office for the next date’s drawings. Winners will be announced in the newspaper, on Facebook and Instagram.
