Speak Out 2/20/16

Priorities are backwards

The Sunday, January 24, edition of the DAR reported "The person making this complaint was concerned they would lose their job if they were identified" - concerning the out dated and mice infested food.

On the other end of the matter, the report stated that the food was two years out of date, and that the mouse urine was so saturated in the walls of the cooler that the health department employees had to wear masks. This problem did not occur overnight. Someone had to be entering that food storage facility and they failed to report what was happening and what they saw.

The person that failed to report that mice and outdated food should be fired and the person who reported it should be given a medal and be praised because they cared about the health of our children.

Instead, the school does nothing to the people that failed to address this problem, while the one that did the right thing lives in fear of losing their job. Something is wrong with this picture, but it seems as if our school board has been doing a lot of wrong things lately. Maybe we need an entirely new board.

Financial

ineptness

There should be a requirement of a remedial understanding of finance before anyone should be qualified to run for city council. Peter Tinsley showed his lack of financial savvy in the private sector and has done so over and over and over as a city council member. Every time he opens his mouth he shows his lack of understanding of bonds, reserves, state and local statutes and municipal codes. I hope the voters in the 5th ward, educate themselves before they elect such incompetence again.

Light the way

Yes, I'd like to say somethin'. Out there where Maud Street -- West Maud and PP Hwy. is where that little girl was killed they need to put a light up there because that traffic goes over that hill so fast and then when they come from the other direction it's impossible to get out and if they don't put a light there somebody else is gonna get killed or injured or worse.

A Concerned Citizen.

Cruz for

Canada

You know kinda like the O. J. Simpson trial -- if it fits you gotta acquit -- well, Obama got to be president and they hollered he wasn't American 'cause he was born in Hawaii on American soil because his dad was Kenyan so they didn't want him to be president the Republicans don't. But now that Ted Cruz was really born in Canada -- a Canadian citizen till 2014 and then he just out of way I got to be a U. S. Senator maybe I can become President of the United States. So he decides to renounce his Canadian citizenship.

Mr. Cruz, you are still a Canadian. I don't care what you say! You were born on Canadian soil in a peaceful country between these two -- you cannot run for the United States of America according to our Constitution. If it was bad for the Democrats, when Obama was born on Hawaiian soil and that is America -- you were born in Canada on Canadian soil -- it's definitely wrong but since you are a Republican and a good old boy (laughter) it's all right for you so you say. I say it's different. Thank you.

Thanks for prayer

DAR, Thank you for putting today's prayer back at the top of the page--this is Sunday's paper. Thank you very much! Bye.

Knock off high speed chase

I'm a concerned citizen, a taxpayer, property owner with three children going to school and I'm quite appalled with you people. I mean, out of date food trying to feed it to our children. You know my take on that--fire everyone of them and fire the high-speed pursuers going through town, out of town, those officers they should be fired. They not only endangered the citizens of Poplar Bluff along with that felon. They are just as guilty and they almost hit a couple of very, very nice people. This never wreck and they're scared, you know, that the police are going to run into them now. Sliding around corners like they're on TV. This is NOT the wild west. They have other ways of tracking these people and getting them stopped before it comes to high speed pursuit. Unless they are a murderer or a kidnapper or have a child in their car get him stopped accordingly, but high speed pursuits -- you oughta knock that off. Thank you and that's my take.

Common

senses

Yes, I was reading in the paper today, Tuesday, Feb. 9, about Panda Express possibly going into the Walmart parking lot. I have a comment about the congestion there already. When you enter and exit Penney's and Walmart and the gas station it is a very hard place to maneuver leaving that area. If we had a restaurant there it's going to create much more traffic. I wish the city council would encourage people that are coming to town and the Chamber of Commerce people also encourage people to look at the other locations that would be less congested and we'd have less wrecks.

For instance out there by Harps' and down PP Hwy. we've got lots of land that is being produced for businesses, but why we are keeping all the congestion on Westwood I don't understand. People that own businesses don't care if you have a wreck, but we as citizens should speak up and make our fears known because this is going to be a disaster if that goes in there for the traffic situation.

Please use some common sense, people.
