[website] Angela Pearson and Brian Becker's joint effort to overthrow (Becker's own word on Facebook later removed) Poplar Bluff government bear similarities to McCarthyism. They've replaced the term "communist" with "good ole' boy network" and accuse their opposition of subversion and disingenuity without proper regard for actual evidence. Their well-documented "anti-Bagby" crusade includes various attempts to intimidate, slander and expel based on mere speculation and accusation. The "evidence" of corruption they've offered to date does not limit their vitriol to Bagby and his position as City Manager, but extends their so-called network of corruption to include other individuals and organizations associated with him. Their manifesto sent to authorities and Becker's blogs include unfair investigative techniques, factual errors, reckless and unsubstantiated accusations, as well as attacks on the character or allegiances of political adversaries. All the while, they hide behind whistleblower protection and bully city administration with Sunshine Law requests in overt displays of self-importance and altruism. To date, they've yet to display a firm grip on facts or offer a clear direction in which they plan to lead. What is clear is that they intend to appeal to the emotions, fears, prejudices and ignorance of voters to gain power and promote their political motives....the very definition of a demagogue.

Give him a break

I see in today's Speak Out column someone is commenting about the terrible road conditions at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. I have to agree. The roads are deplorable. It is, of course, a cemetery. No one will be driving very fast through there or certainly shouldn't be. And if they will drive slowly they can avoid the pot holes. I know the young man that is in charge of it and he is doing the very best he can with what he has to work with, so bear with him. I have to say I was there just today. The cemetery looks lovely. The grass has just been cut and there are flowers on practically every grave in the cemetery and it is a credit to the way it has looked, so please visit again some time between now and the end of May because you will be pleasantly surprised. It appears that the work is much nicer than it has been in the past, so give him a break and let's hope they can do something about the roads eventually. Thank you.

Really - Include all and love all?

[mail] I am confused by Mayor Pearson's reply to one of Mr. Coffman's question. He asked why Council DeGaris and Absheer were not included in the other council's decision to fire Doug Bagby. She replied that they were not included because she used to be the one left out. The day before on her face books page when asked what her agenda was for City Council she replied, "include all and love all." Is there some fine print that I'm missing because that is a contradiction to what you replied to Mr. Coffman. Again, it sounds like she has an axe to grind and the City will suffer while she has the opportunity for revenge. Read your Bible, Ms. Pearson, instead of going on and on about prayer and love to cover who you really are. God will forgive you.

Mr. Johnson also changed his story about their secret meetings to exclusively discuss firing Mr. Bagby one he realized that he may have exposed Ms. Pearson's blatant disregard for the sunshine law of Missouri . . . more contradiction.

Yes, I've been around this country for 77 years almost and I've been reading Speak Out in the daily paper and I'd like for somebody to explain to me what the Sunshine Law is all about. I been reading all the time about and I don't understand what that Sunshine Law is about. Somebody needs to explain it to me in Speak Out. Thank you.
