Business owner says: Bagby was only doing his job

To the Editor:

Last night, last year's "Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year" was suddenly fired by the new City Council. Doug Bagby has served our city for over 30 years. As City Manager, he has led our city to unprecedented prosperity. Doug has always worked at the behest of the City Council, carrying out his duties as directed, and now he is fired by the new City Council for executing the duties of his office as directed by the previous administration.

I am very angry and disappointed by this action and hope the council reconsiders this decision. I had heard talk that this action might take place. I know these new council members, they are friends. I always thought of them as thoughtful reasonable people. I'm sorry they didn't see fit to work with this loyal public servant and give him new directions. After all, he was only doing his job.
