Local newspaper dropped the ball

To the Editor:

On Dec. 7, 2013 our Edgewood Children's Home was once again privileged to attend the 37th Anniversary Celebration of our local Aerie and Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles Charity presentation.

The Eagles presented a very moving tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters of the Armed Forces; with a special memorial for Marine Staff Sargent Eric Summers, the son of Wayne and Melodie Summers of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

What surprised me most of all was a total lack of newspaper coverage of this yearly event. This group of men and women work tirelessly throughout the year to make money to give away. The Eagles do not give away hundreds of dollars but thousands of dollars to various needy charities. This year there were 37 lucky recipients.

Next year it would be wonderful if the DAR could give this worthy organization some newspaper coverage.

Thanks Eagles for a fantastic job.
