Straighten the S curves on Hwy. PP

Sunday, October 30, 2011

To the Editor:

We were pleased to learn about the replacement of the Hwy. PP Bridge at Cane Creek, especially being raised six inches. In the past the bridge has over flown, destroying a portion of the highway and drowning our cattle. We hope drainage along PP will be improved because just a little rain causes County Road 449 to flood, blocking our driveway and interrupting phone service. There is a lot of water flowing from Mark Twain National Forest which occludes County Road 449 because free flow is limited along the south side of PP at Cane Cree, Taking all of this into account is imperative.

We totally agree with Steve Green who stated the S curves on PP should be straightened out. For over 40 years, we have contacted MoDOT and various officials, explaining the serious danger of the S curve between County Roads 449 and 431. Many accidents have occurred there. A little ice, a little snow, a wet road makes this S curve, on a hill, overlooking a high embankment deadly. We can usually get in by using 449 to 448, but when ice or snow occurs, there are a lot of people who live off of PP who take their lives in their own hands by attempting to transverse PP, especially this most dangerous S curve.

We hope everyone who lives there will contact Mr. Kevin Keith, MoDOT director, at 105 W. Capitol Ave., J. C., MO 65102 and request this S curve be straightened with a reduced incline and decline. Maybe all of us together can get the job done.
