We're still learning, but we need some help

Last Friday, in a meeting at the DAR offices about something coming up that will definitely be on the readers radar...or eardar, someone talked about rivers.

They said how just beyond those trees to the east was a river. I was puzzled and perplexed. Just the week prior, I had heard someone else mention a river. Now I may not be the smartest guy but I knew there had to be something with rivers in this area given Three Rivers and Twin Rivers.

I then learned about the Black River. Insert now when I also realized at that point...Black River Coliseum.

They said well if you come in from the east side, you come in over a bridge. I guess I always thought that was just a big hill because that didn’t feel like any bridge I had grown up with as I lived between the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.

But this interaction reiterated there is always something to learn.

I’ve been the sports editor at the DAR for almost two months and I’ve learned a lot of things about Poplar Bluff, Butler County and even more into this area of Southeast Missouri than I hadn’t known very much about.

D’Courtland Christian and the rest of the staff have been great in helping me get acclimated and getting in contact with people but again, there is always something to learn.
