Investigation underway in death of Dexter police dog

Wednesday, February 21, 2024

A Dexter police dog has died, according to information released by the department.

Chief Hank Trout shared details Tuesday that Apollo was discovered deceased inside his kennel Sunday.

A necropsy was performed Monday at the Animal Health Center in Dexter. No additional details were released about the results of that exam.

“The Dexter Police Department and Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control conduct an independent investigation,” Trout said.

This is an ongoing investigation and further details will be released as they become available, he said.
