Lorene Wood

Iris Lorene Wood, 92, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, on her birthday.

Lorene was born Jan. 13, 1932, to Carl and Iva (Hedspeth) Kearbey in Cane Creek Valley in Northern Butler County, Missouri. She married Kenneth Leon Wood Sept. 16, 1951, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Lorene and Kenneth built a life of serving their church and community. Lorene was a very witty and knowledgeable woman. Her greatest joys in life were helping others through volunteer work, and spending time with her family.

Lorene is survived by one brother, Verdis Kearbey; granddaughter, Megan Wood (Pablo Trejo); daughter-in-law, Carolyn Wood (Max Williamson); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Wood; son, John Keith Wood; four brothers, Eugene, Lyle, Lyndle, and Daris; four sisters, Alpha, Lavern, Geraldine, and Charlotte.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-noon Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at noon with Pastor Glenn Hamilton. Burial will take place at Sparkman Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
