Robert Hendrickson

Robert Hendrickson, 91 years old, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Jan. 10, 2024, at Cedargate Healthcare in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Hendrickson was born to Louis and Helen (Head) Hendrickson June 23, 1932, in the community of Hendrickson Missouri. They precede him in death.

He grew up among his family in Hendrickson and was especially close to his grandmother, Laura Head. He was of the Christian faith.

He is an alum of Poplar Bluff Senior High School Class of 1951. Bob enjoyed attending and helped organize class reunions.

Robert graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in General Education, studying the French and German languages.

He served two years in the Army as a Public Information Officer. His teaching began in a one room schoolhouse in Oak Hill, just outside of Poplar Bluff. He moved to Venice, Illinois, to teach English, French and German for six years. He retired after teaching German and French in the Twin Rivers School District.

Mr. Hendrickson loved learning, reading, history, and telling stories. One could find him at the library or enjoying coffee and conversation while people-watching at the Walmart McDonald’s.

Cousins Sandra Halcumb, Debbie Casey, extended family, and goddaughter Angela White survive him.

Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Interment will be held Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 in New Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsville, Missouri. Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
