Statemen on senseless killings and violent crimes in Poplar Bluff

Friday, January 12, 2024

To the Editor,

Over the past year, we have seen more violent crimes in our city. The senseless killings and violent crimes here in our area have left families mourning the tragic loss and/or injury of their loved ones. I offer my sincere condolences to the victims and their families and mourn the loss of lives.

As a community, we cannot look at such acts of senseless killings and violent crimes in isolation or allow them to be ignored. The safety of our community must be the highest priority of us all as concerned citizens. We must find ways to keep our communities safe for us and our children.

I am open to work with anyone within our city and county committed to providing resources to address these challenges and work toward a safer city as a whole. I know this cannot be done alone, but with the strength of several forces together ready to focus on making impactful changes, I truly believe it will help to lessen violent crimes in Poplar Bluff.

Today, I am asking all community leaders and organizations to please pull together to help stop and prevent senseless killings and violent crimes within our city; and I humbly ask if anyone is aware of a crime taking place or see and/or hear of a violent act taking place, please call 911 and DO NOT attempt to handle these violent crimes on your own.

By working together, we can help keep Poplar Bluff safe for ALL.

A very concerned citizen,
