Two arrested, two dead after shooting, more arrests expected

Two people are dead and two people are in custody due to charges related to those deaths. Police say additional arrests are expected.

According to police reports, at approximately 3:17 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were notified of a shooting victim being brought to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. Upon the arrival at the hospital, officers learned the subject, a 34-year-old Poplar Bluff resident, had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation indicated the shooting occurred at a residence in the 600 block of North Main Street in Poplar Bluff. Investigators responded to the scene and located a second victim, a 23-year-old Poplar Bluff resident, deceased, according to reports.

Investigators continue to conduct interviews, are examining physical evidence and are reviewing area surveillance as part of their investigation, police said in a press release. Two individuals, identified as Antonio Whitehorn, 21, of Poplar Bluff; and Stormy Ward, 18, of Poplar Bluff, have been taken into custody as part of this investigation.

Whitehorn is currently being held on the charges of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery. Ward is being held on the charges of hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence. All of the above-referenced charges are pending review by the Butler County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Autopsies on both of the victims are scheduled for Thursday. The names of the victims are currently being withheld.
