If you have any ambitions to go walking in a winter wonderland, you might want to grab a raincoat and a scarf.

According to the National Weather Service, the immediate forecast is wet and windy, and will soon be turning very cold. The difficulties will likely arise by the end of the week on Friday. Emerging weather patterns indicate there could be some patches of rain while the temperature will gradually continue to cool throughout the week; and Friday, the area could see winds as high as 40 mph.

Meteorologists said Monday morning, the reason for the high winds is because there will be multiple different storm systems to the north and the south of this area simultaneously. It’s possible there could be tornado activity as far south as the gulf area in Mississippi.

The National Weather Service went on to explain the storm systems surrounding this area will be very active and could cause rain or other winter precipitation to pop into the area intermittently.

From Jan. 15-21, the wind chill is forecasted to be the coldest of the winter so far, with a 90% chance of wind chills being below zero.

Friday afternoon could also see some snow in the area, but without any accumulation being forecasted; however, Sunday evening could see some impactful snow landing in the region. The National Weather Service stated that Sunday night and Monday morning are the times of most concern for winter weather, as of current weather models.
