Nadine Johnson

Nadine M. (Birdsong) Johnson graduated to heaven peacefully in her sleep Dec. 25 at the age of 87 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

Nadine was born Feb. 2, 1936 to Merlin Roy and Ruby Jean (Lewis) Birdsong at their home in Williamsville, Missouri. On Oct.3, 1954, Nadine married Orlin Douglas Johnson at the Second Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, he survives.

Ollie and Nadine ran Bluff Garage Door Company that was founded in 1975, for 47 years as sole proprietors. The business closed in 2019 when they retired. There was never a change of ownership.

Nadine attended Agee school and was a 1954 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, she also played the piano for the Agee Community Church since she was 13 years old. Later also functioning as the treasurer.

Orlin (Ollie) Johnson, and Nadine had two children, fraternal twins, one boy and their loyal daughter, Jeanie, who functioned as their bookkeeper for fifteen years. Nadine and Ollie Johnson were married for 69 years.

They loved vacationing in Branson, seeing the shows and fishing, they lovingly called their boat their psychiatrist. Nadine’s mother Ruby was one of the founding members of the Agee Community Club where she became a member when her twins were two months old. Over the years Nadine held every office in the Club, her last office was as historian.

Besides her husband, Nadine is survived by one daughter Jeanie (Larry) Feagles; three grandsons, Michael Figgins, Mark (Judy) Figgins-Brenner, and Eric (Amanda) Figgins; one great-grandson, Corwin Atum Figgins-Brenner; two brothers, Fred Birdsong and Jerry (Carole) Birdsong.

At her request no funeral was held, burial was in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with Fowler Sullivan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements
