Christine Thurman

Christine Thurman, 97, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023 at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing, in Dexter, Missouri.

Mrs. Thurman was born Aug. 17, 1926 in Hoxie, Arkansas, daughter of the late Clarence and Mae Montgomery (née Flippo). On May 21, 1947, she married Vernon Thurman. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2009.

Christine was a longtime member of Black River General Baptist Church in Broseley. She enjoyed crafting; especially quilting and crocheting special keepsakes for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Christine worked hard at whatever she did, from taking care of her family and home, to driving the tractor and doing whatever was necessary on the farm alongside her husband. She also worked many years and retired from Smiley Container.

She is survived by two children, Larry (Rogenia) Thurman and Gary Thurman, both Poplar Bluff, Missouri; son-in -law, Alan Gregory; special daughter-in-law, Myra Thurman; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Emily) Thurman and Ryan (Suzanne) Thurman, Jill (Jeff) Null, Sally Thurman, Matthew (Kandra) Gregory, Jesse (Samantha) Gregory, and Seth Gregory; and 11 great-grandchildren: Warren, Price, and Colt Thurman, Gracie, Tucker, and Maggie King, Kobe Cruse, Lacey Kelley, Laken and Daxton Gregory, and Hunter Baker. In addition to her parents and husband, Christine was also preceded in death by her daughter: Deborah Gregory; four brothers: Junior, Louis, Travis, and Dewayne Montgomery; and two sisters: Glodena Morgan and Alma Parks.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will be at Shain Memorial Cemetery in Fisk.
