Betty Joyce Pruitt, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away Dec. 19, 2023, at her home in Poplar Bluff.

Betty was born Dec.10, 1940, to John and Iva (Walker) Kanell in Poplar Bluff. Her marriage to Thomas Pruitt produced two children, Lewis Pruitt and Elizabeth (Pruitt) Turcotte.

Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and aunt. She was a 1959 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, a strong supporter of the community and owned the Bee Hive Health Food Store for 42 years. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church. She was a Gold Star member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was instrumental in creating the Poplar Bluff Veterans Wall. Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Betty is survived by one sister, Fay Powell; three great-grandchildren, Alana, Thomas, and Tommie Lynn Pruitt; one brother-in-law, James Burkett; one sister-in-law, Shirley Kanell; one son-in-law, Jason Turcotte; and several nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; both children, Lewis and Elizabeth; one grandson, Thomas Lewis Pruitt II; six brothers, Claude, Norman, Glen, Vernon, Robert, and Billie Gene Kanell; and one sister, Wanda Kanell Burkett.

Visitation will be held from 10 –11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, with the funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff. Burial will take place at the Fairdealing Cemetery with Jim Schremp officiating.
