Seniors citizens of Poplar Bluff Housing are invited to learn about health, financial wellness and more while experiencing a little Christmas cheer at Surviving the Holidays, an event by the Poplar Bluff Housing Authority in the Twin Towers Apartments Community Room. Festivities are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday.

“Everyone knows holidays can be tough depending on your situation,” said Jessica Dawson, ROSS coordinator at PBHA.

These situations include finances, grief and sudden emergencies.

Surviving the Holidays includes workshops on scam awareness, computer literacy, grief support, budgeting and more, thanks to a variety of local sponsors. The Butler County Health Department is also offering immunizations, and seniors can enjoy “Cookies with a Cop” courtesy of the Poplar Bluff Police Department. Visitors receive a gift upon making their rounds of the of the booths.

Psychological First Aid students will also be on the scene to talk about mental health and connect people with resources to improve their wellbeing.

“Your mental health is important, too. If you need to outsource for counseling, the PFA trainees are going to assess people and if they need referrals, we can give them,” Dawson continued.
