The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center invites medical clinicians and community caregivers from around the region to Friday’s 2023 Caregiver Community Summit and Resource Fair.

This no-cost educational event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, located at 500 N. Main St.

This year’s theme is “The year of the caregiver: the whole caregiver.”

“The Caregiver Summit is an excellent opportunity for community caregivers and professionals to learn more about the challenges caregivers face and the resources available to assist them,” said Jessi Houchins, Caregiver Support program manager at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. “One of the purposes of this summit is to recognize the sacrifices our caregivers make to keep loved ones at home. What caregivers do is life changing for those they care for, and a goal of this summit is to acknowledge that.”

Several professionals are scheduled to speak Friday, including John J. Pershing VA Medical Center neuropsychologist Dr. Douglas Johnson, Dr. Sandra Jackson and health behavior coordinator Rebecca Hartwell. Attorney Ellen Lutlow and Community Counseling Center’s Moriah Joplin also will speak at the event.

In addition to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, other sponsors of this year’s summit include Aging Matters, University of Missouri School of Social Work, University of Missouri Extension Center, Community Resource Center, Chartwells, and AARP.

Anyone interested may register for the event online at www.thecrc.org.
