Shawnta was a dedicated Treatment Supervisor at Baby Love – Case Management and a passionate advocate for those in need. Her life was marked by a profound commitment to helping others. She had served tirelessly in this role since September 2013, providing clinical services to pregnant and postpartum women facing addiction. Her impact extended beyond her role, as she sat on various committees and worked closely with organizations like TAMHO (Tennessee Association of Mental Health Organizations), the Department of Children’s Services, and the Memphis drug courts and mental health courts. Shawnta also served as the coordinator of housing programs, which provided shelter and support to 40 families in need. She saved lives through her heroic use of Narcan and even displayed incredible courage when delivering a baby.

Additionally, Shawnta was a dedicated employee of CAAP Inc. (Cocaine Alcohol Awareness Program) for nearly 20 years. She began her journey as a Case Officer at their Community Correctional Facility. Shawnta’s passion for making a difference in the lives of others was evident as she played a pivotal role in helping female clients develop life-changing skills, job readiness, parenting abilities, obtaining their GEDs, and acquiring preventive skills to steer clear of relapses in alcohol and drug abuse.

Later, Shawnta took on the role of Shift Supervisor at CAAP’s Residential Facility, where her dedication and hard work continued to shine. In this position, she tirelessly assisted residents in achieving positive outcomes and acquiring the skills necessary for a successful reintegration into society. Shawnta remained steadfastly committed to her work at CAAP Inc. until her sudden and deeply mourned passing.

In addition to her dedication to her career, Shawnta pursued higher education with unwavering determination. She attended and graduated from Three Rivers Community College, where she served as an ambassador under the direction of Mrs. Vida Stanard. She later went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hannibal-LaGrange as well as receiving her Master’s degree in Public Health from Strayer University.

Shawnta is survived by her parents, Larry and Jane Ellison; her beloved son, Jayson (Tiara); her sisters, Jami, Ashley, Kaiya, and Haley; her brothers, Torrey, Derland, and Colbi (Rhodesia); and her godmother, Althea Johnson. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Jayce and was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a host of family members and friends. Shawnta was preceded in death by her dear brother, Evan, whom she lovingly referred to as her best friend.

Shawnta was a beacon of joy and positivity in the lives of those who knew her. Her vibrant personality could light up any room, and she had an insatiable love for travel, with Mexico being her favorite destination. Shawnta had a deep affinity for water, and she could often be found enjoying herself in a pool. Her mouthwatering salads, known for their extraordinary taste, were a testament to her culinary expertise. Shawnta’s love language was evident in the special meals prepared for her clients, employees, and coworkers. Her compassionate and supportive nature made her the go-to person for those in need, always putting others’ well-being first. However, her deepest love was reserved for her family, particularly her son, Jayson, whom she affectionately referred to as “My Jayson.”
