Scott H. Denton of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023 at the age of 66. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wit, and a zest for life that touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Scott was born June 19, 1957, to Samuel “Jack” and Natalie Denton in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

He is survived by his brothers, Samuel (Mari) Denton of St. Louis and Steven Denton of Reelfoot Lake, Hornbeak, Tennessee; his sister, Tracye (Ralph) Butler of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his nephews, Thomas, Benjamin, Joseph and Colton Denton, and Rory Butler; and his nieces, Brenda and Andrea Denton and Raleigh Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Ross Butler.

Scott lived his life to the fullest. Through the years, he had several jobs at places such as Missouri Pacific, Radio Shack, Hefner Furniture, and Baldwin Ford where he struck up conversations and formed lasting connections with customers and co-workers. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State with a degree in microbiology and a specialty in electron microscope usage.

Scott had a remarkable memory and loved reading and learning obscure facts for playing Trivia or watching Jeopardy. He had a passion for TV shows and movies and delighted in sharing his favorite recommendations with friends and family. He also liked to travel and visited many places - from scuba diving in Belize to the glitz of Las Vegas. Whether helping a friend move to Seattle or supplying ice cream on boating trips to Norfork Lake, Scott loved traveling with his friends. He could bring laughter to any gathering with his quick wit and repertoire of jokes.

Above all, Scott cherished his family and spending time with his friends playing trivia, cards, or simply enjoying each other’s company. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held ofrom 4-7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Haff Whiskey, located at 309 South Broadway, Poplar Bluff. Friends and family are invited to share their favorite memories of Scott during this gathering.
