Vina Carter

Vina Marie (Wallace) Carter of Ellsinore, Missouri, passed away Aug. 17, 2023 at home with her family by her side.

Marie was born Jan. 22, 1939 to Perry and Vina Wallace. She had attained the age of 84 years, six months and 25 days.

On Nov. 8, 1958, Marie was united in marriage to the love of her life John Paul Carter. To this union, 10 children were born Paul Carter (Susie), Rebecca Gearhart (Glen), James Carter (Wendy). all of Ellsinore, Thomas Carter (Allyson) of Bixby, Oklahoma, Mary Ann Collins (Tom) of Ellsinore, the triplets John Ray Carter (Deana) of Ellsinore, Jana Kay Scott (Doug) of Poplar Bluff, Joan Fay Mann (Jim) of Ellington, Sarah Jane Hawkins (Bryan) of Van Buren, and Daniel Carter (Carly) of Ellsinore.

Marie grew up in Mill Spring and lived her adult life in Ellsinore. She was very proud of her family and felt they were her greatest accomplishment in life. She loved singing, quilting, talking, going to yard sales and visiting with family, friends, and strangers. She often said she never met a stranger.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Also, surviving is her sister, Mattie Lowe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Carter, eight brothers, Nolan, Junior, James, Ray, Donald, Perry Joe, Roy and Dwayne Wallace and one sister, Evelyn Leach, and two great-grandchildren, Jason and Oren Carter.

She will be greatly and sadly missed by her family and friends.

A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 2023, in the Ellsinore General Baptist Church in Ellsinore, with the funeral services being held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023 in the church chapel. Rev. William McDowell & Rev. Darrell Davis will be officiating. Burial will be in the John Carter Family Cemetery in Ellsinore.
