Max Patterson

Max Wayne Patterson, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, peacefully passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at his residence in Poplar Bluff, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Patterson was born March 2, 1945, in Fisk, Missouri, son of the late J.W. and Alma Patterson. He graduated from Fisk Rombauer High School in 1963. He proudly served in the United States Army, a 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagle,” during the Vietnam War, from 1964 until 1966. On Aug. 31, 1968, he married Sherrie Pierce Patterson. He was a longtime member of Fisk Presbyterian Church. 1971 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SEMO. Max loyally served his community throughout his lifetime. He was a member of numerous boards over the years including Twin Rivers School Board, Westwood Hills Country Club, Fisk Library, Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission. He served multiple terms as Mayor of Fisk. Max was a loyal member with his fellow veterans of AMVETS Post 29 in Poplar Bluff, VFW Post 6477, American Legion Post 153, and Elks Lodge #2452. He retired from Morse Harwell Jiles Insurance Company in 2019 after a long career in insurance sales.

Max loved sports, his favorite being golf. He also enjoyed playing cards and quail hunting. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Max is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Sherrie Patterson; two children: Amy (Berlin) Robertson and Eric (Cynthia) Patterson, both of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren: Blake (Brittany) Robertson, Brady Robertson, Hannah Patterson, Thomas Patterson, and Jesse Patterson; three siblings: Jerrol Patterson of Fisk, Jane Diamond of Silva, Missouri, and Debbie Trout of Fisk; and numerous extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Max was also preceded in death by three siblings: Tom Patterson, Bill Patterson, and Anna Mae Sanders.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders and Rev. Callum officiating. Burial will follow at noon at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
