James Lawrence Faries, 92, of Williamsville, Missouri passed away Aug. 8, 2023 at his home in Williamsville.

James was born Jan. 13, 1931 to Joseph and Mamie Edna Porterfield Faries in Pulaski, Missouri. He married Wilma (Billie) Louise Orton Aug. 1, 1953, in Little Rock Arkansas. She proceeded him in death Aug. 6, 2016, from this marriage they were blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

James served in active duty and the Air National Guard. During the Korean War, he flew the F-94C as a U.S. Air Force Navigator. After graduating from medical school at the University of Memphis, Tennessee, he served in the USAF as a radiologist. During the Vietnam War he served as a flight surgeon in Cam Ranh Bay Air Base, Vietnam. He retired as a Colonel in 1978. He continued practicing medicine in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Anchorage, Alaska and then retired from his medical career at the V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

In addition to his family, his passions included, watching Cardinals baseball and classic western movies, and fishing with Billie, traveling to and from his homes in Alaska and Missouri and planting walnut trees. His last five years were spent with his current wife, Edna (Darlene) Stone, splitting their time between St. Claire, Missouri and Williamsville. He was best known for his numerous charitable donations to include donations to universities and college scholarship programs, missions, and the churches of Williamsville.

James is survived by his current wife: Darlene; four children: Paula Muzny, Jamie and Martin Strasser, Cindy and John Hamm, and Joe and Laurie Faries; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and his last surviving sibling, Esther Parker.

James was preceded by his parents; his wife: Billie: and four siblings.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023, starting at 1 p.m. (doors opening at 12:30 p.m.) at the United Methodist Church in Williamsville, Missouri with full military honors. Visiting hours from 2-3 p.m. immediately following.
