Bessie Chatman

Bessie Mae Chatman was born in Greenville March 1, 1935, a daughter to David “Roscoe” and Easter Josephine “Josie” Cozort. She died July 25, 2023 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City at the age of 88.

She is survived by two daughters: Vickie (Daniel) Darland, Hillsboro and Kay (Michael) Smith, Festus; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Glenda (J.D.) Miller, Poplar Bluff, Hazel (the late Jerry) Scrivner, Crystal City and Wanda Cozort, Poplar Bluff and one brother: Wayne (the late Wanda) Cozort, St. Louis.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hershel S. Chatman; her daughter, Maria Chatman; and two sisters, Betty (the late Bud) Webb and Thelma McWilliams.

Funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Dietrich-Mothershead Chapel, 220 N. Main St., De Soto, Missouri. Graveside service at 2:15 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Poplar Bluff Memorial Gardens. Visitation Sunday July 30, 2023 from 5-8 p.m.
