Jewell Tomerlin

Jewell Berniece Tomerlin, 95, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Friday, July 14, 2023 at her residence in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Tomerlin was born Oct. 28, 1927 in Kime, Missouri, daughter of the late Ules and Vada Guinn Layton. She was a member of Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. She began working at Walmart when they opened the Poplar Bluff store and retired after 17 years.

On June 1, 1947, she married Archileus “Arkie” Tomerlin. He preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2020.

She is survived by two sons:  Jerry (Sara) Tomerlin of Ozark, Missouri and Kent (Candace) Tomerlin of Poplar Bluff; one son-in-law: Bill Rappe’ of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren:  Lorna (Mike) Hill, Tina Landrus, Julie (Dean) Brown, Will (Ashley) Rappe’, Chris Rappe’, Michelle (Nathan) Taurone, and Tyler Tomerlin, and seven great-grandchildren: James, Reagan and Luci Hill, Michael Brown, Logan Rappe’, and Atlas and Colton Taurone.  

She was also preceded in death by one daughter:  Jana Rappe’, one brother: Hubert Layton and one sister: Doris Mondy.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2023 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Leland Duncan and Ernie Rogers officiating.
