Cloyd George Cook Jr., 72, of Fort Madison, Iowa, surrounded by his family left this earth and began his journey with Jesus Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Cloyd was born on July 1, 1951, to Cloyd George Cook Sr. and Opal Fern (Camden) Cook in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He married Betty Schnellbacher on Dec. 21, 1973, in Ursa, Illinois.

Cloyd attended rural Butler County schools and graduated from Twin Rivers High School. He was a hard working and generous man. He was a mechanic and worked the oil fields of Oklahoma. Cloyd spent the last 30 plus years as a professional truck driver. He retired with many awards and accolades for heroism, including a 1-million-mile safe driving award.

Cloyd was of the Baptist faith and had been baptized. He was a simple and humble man who enjoyed the little things in life. His final act of kindness came at the end. He had a microwavable stuffed animal from his grandkids and gave it to another patient battling cancer. He liked to fish and spend time outdoors. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandkids. If you could not find him at home, he would be working or shopping and fishing with his grandkids.

Cloyd is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Andrew (Heather) Cook; one daughter, Dama Heather Cook; three sisters, Claudette Gail Black, Judy (Larry) Jones, and Amanda (Daron) House; four grandchildren, Cale, Adalynn, Andrew, and Isabella; along with numerous extended family and friends.
