Nola Johnson

Nola “Susie” S. Johnson, nee Moore, 76, of Cahokia, Illinois, born Nov. 1, 1946, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Saturday, July 8, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Susie was retired from the Department of Veteran Affairs in St. Louis, Missouri.  However, after her retirement she got her Real Estate Broker’s license in 2006 and went to work for Chuck Baer Realty in Cahokia and finished her real estate career at Just Wright Realty in Fairview Heights, Illinois.  She was a member of the Rotary Club in Cahokia; Treasurer of the Cahokia Chapter of the American Cancer Society; past president of the Women’s Club of Cahokia; treasurer of the Cahokia Khoury League; member and past pianist at the Little Brushy Baptist Church in Wappapello, Missouri; and a POW/MIA volunteer coordinator at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis; Susie was the Southern Illinois Realtor’s Association Sales Rookie of the Year in 2006.

She loved to travel and has been to 45 of the 50 states; both U.S. Territories; and over 10 countries.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Wesley R. Johnson, Sr.; her parents, Franklin and Florine, nee McGowen, Moore; and an infant brother, William Jr. “Billy.”

Surviving are her children, Cyndi (Bobby) Capps of Cahokia, and Randy (Kara) Johnson of Belleville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Chelsea (Jason) Renaud, Trinity (David Gonzalez) Capps, Trey (Lezli Love) Johnson, Brooke (Tyler Beaston) Johnson, and Andy (Jennifer) Jackson; and six great-grandchildren, Landon, Adam, Wesley, Harper, Dillon, and Payton.  She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.- noon Friday, July 14, 2023, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral and Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff. Funeral service will follow beginning at noon with Pastor Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will take place at Little Brushy Cemetery, near Wappapello.
