The staff at Lemonade House Grille will put fun into fundraising Saturday at the St. Jude Summer Bash. The charity event for the children’s research hospital will last from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and feature carnival games, a cruise-in car show, a bounce house, dunking booth and raffles.
“We are doing this event because we are more than just a restaurant,” said Larenzo Cornell, the Poplar Bluff restaurant’s kitchen manager. “We strive for our saying ‘Fun, Fresh, Food,’ first word being ‘fun’, so we wanted to have some fun with the community. What better way to have fun all while raising money to help kids and families in need. I’m personally always looking for a way to help out someone, somehow. I was taught it’s always better to give than to receive.”
One of the owners, Michael Cook, has a special connection with St. Jude, Cornell said.
“One of his sons, Dustin Cook, was admitted to the St. Jude hospital when he was younger, and now his son is in progress to working in that same hospital to help other kids. So St. Jude is real special here at LHG.”
Dustin currently is training in radiation therapy, “because his dream is to go back to the same hospital to help kids the way he was helped,” Cornell said.
Cornell’s goal is “to hopefully help families appreciate each other and not take things for granted. As sad as this is, but there’s some kids that wish they can attend events like this. There’s also parents that wish the same thing. So hopefully everyone comes together and makes this the biggest party of the summer.”
The Cruise-In is going to be an easy going and laid back experience, Cornell said. The public will get to enjoy vintage and new cars alike and car lovers will get to show off their rides.
“We will be selling tickets for the events that we have,” he said. “Each event will cost a certain amount of tickets. We have several gifts and gift cards that will be raffled off in a 50/50 raffle. You must be here during the raffle to win.”
