Fire officials: do not burn after three woods fires doused this week

Friday, June 30, 2023

Dry weather conditions may be causing a spike in woods fires and county fire officials are warning the community not to burn anything.

Butler County Fire Chief Bob Fredwell explained it’s not his firefighters’ jobs to determine of the origin of a fire, but crews have fought three woods fires this week.

“We would not recommend burning anything under these conditions,” Fredwell said.

If one does burn anything, Fredwell recommends “staying vigilant with the fire and keeping an eye on it.”

Seven firefighters spent two hours Tuesday fighting a fire on eight acres of wood at 1279 County Road 456.

Wednesday, lighting struck a tree creating a woods fire at 9238 Highway PP and six firefighters responded.

Thursday, at 225 Forest Drive, five firefighters fought a fire that burned one acre of woods.
