Weekend fun ahead

This week’s MAIN EVENT includes a Family Fun Fest, a bike show to help disabled veterans and Waterfest.

Parent Link, part of the University of Missouri system, will host a Family Fun Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. They’ll serve up hot dogs, games and crafts, along with a chance for families to connect with vital services, like child care assistance programs.

The local Disabled American Veterans chapter is also hosting a bike show Saturday, with proceeds to help disabled veterans. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at 3339 S. Westwood Blvd., with awards given at 2 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

And for those who want to escape the heat, Waterfest is on tap at Lake Wappapello. Events start at 11 a.m. at Redman Creek Recreation Area. Park rangers will be on hand to play various games, teach water safety and give away prizes to participating beachgoers.

— Count It All Joy - 2023 Women’s Conference, June 23-25 WHERE Heartland Christian Family Church, 3025 S. Westwood Blvd. COST Free WHAT This annual Women’s Conference is a partnership between HCFC and God’s Power House. It brings special guest speakers Shirley Darnell, Susan Hartley, Bonnie Goins, Linda Klingle and Virginia Thomas, each with a special message on how to count it all joy. Activities begin at 7 p.m. June 23; 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. June 24; and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

— Lunch & Learn: Advancements and Insights for Optimal Pain Management, 12-1 p.m. June 23. WHERE Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Classroom #3. COST Free. — Fourth Friday Cruise-In, 5:30-8 p.m. June 23. WHERE Gooch’s Good Eats, Piedmont WHAT Organizers say this is a chance to check out the local car scene. Visitors are invited to bring hot rods, classic cars, old trucks or motorcycles, or just come and enjoy some live music with “Just Kenny.”

— Karaoke night, 7 p.m. to midnight June 23 WHERE The Camp COST Free WHAT Hits from the 80s, 90s and today.

— Family Fun Fest, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 24 WHERE First United Methodist Church COST Free WHAT Food, games and activities for families.

— Trapped in a Storybook Escape Room, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 24 WHERE Poplar Bluff library, main branch WHAT Participants will work as a team to find their way out of a land of fairytales and folklore. Registration opens June 3. For ages 12 and up.

— DAV Bike Show, 10:30 a.m. June 24. WHERE 3339 S. Westwood Blvd. COST $15 to enter WHAT Hosted by 67 RC and The Marked Bar, all proceeds go to the local Disabled Veterans chapter. The event will include a 50/50 raffle, trophies for first and second place, as well as special awards. Registration is from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Awards will be given at 2 p.m.

— Waterfest, 11 a.m. June 24. WHERE Redman Creek Recreation Area, Wappapello Lake. COST Free. WHAT Slather on the sunscreen for a free day of fun in the sun. Park Rangers will be on hand to play various games, teach water safety and give away prizes to participating beachgoers.

— Grand opening Jake’s Loch Loma Lounge, 11 a.m. June 24 and June 25 WHERE 1815 Highway W, Poplar Bluff. WHAT Includes live music and raffles.

— Trey Clevenger live, 6-8 p.m. June 24 WHERE Green Oasis WHAT Acoustic music

— Crochet College, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. June 26. WHERE Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, Main Branch. COST Free. WHAT A class teaching basic crochet stitches with the option to start an easy project. Yarn and hooks are provided. Open to ages 7 and up, no registration required. The class will also meet July 10 and 24.

— VR Travel Experience, 4 p.m. June 26. WHERE Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, Main Branch. COST Free. WHAT Travel the world without leaving the Library. Visit far-off places using VR technology. Open to grades 7-12.

— Super Kids Camp registration opens, 2:30-5:30 p.m. June 27. WHERE Historic Wheatley School. COST Free. — Tech N9ne, 7 p.m. June 30 WHERE Black River Coliseum COST Tickets $35-$55 WHAT Tech N9ne will perform with Joey Cool. Doors open at 7 p.m., show begins at 8 p.m.

— Community worship, Independence Day celebration, 7 p.m. June 30 WHERE The Square: Downtown Poplar Bluff WHAT This free outdoor worship service is open to everyone. In case of inclement weather, it will be moved to Palace of Praise church.

— Movie in the Park, ‘Super Mario Bros.’, 8:15 p.m. June 30 WHERE Wappapello Lake Spillway Recreation Area.
