Sonny Spencer

Alvin “Sonny” Eugene Spencer, 82, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 09, 2023, at Oakdale Care Center.

Sonny was born Sept. 16, 1940, to Leonard and Francis (Motter) Spencer in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He married Opal Mae Browning on Nov. 17, 1986, in Wickliffe, Kentucky.

Sonny was of the Baptist Faith. He was the owner and operator of Spencer Excavating, Spencer Ready Mix, and Spencer Tire Shop. He was an active business owner in the community for over 40 years. He was a hardworking man. Sonny loved his family, friends, and cat companions.

Sonny is survived by three daughters, Tammy (DiAnn) Spencer, Erma (David) Suttner, and Marie Briggs; two sons, Chris and Greg (Mimi) Browning; one sister, Aileen Dockery; many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal Browning Spencer; three sons, Keith Spencer, Joe Spencer and Leonard Browning; brother, Andy Spencer; daughter-in-law, Alita Browning; and son-in-law, Jack Briggs.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rick White officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
