Choose leisure or endurance this weekend

In this week’s MAIN EVENT, take a leisurely stroll through opening day of the Downtown Poplar Bluff Farmer’s Market or try your hand at an endurance competition on the scenic Wolf Creek Trail.

The Downtown Poplar Bluff Farmer’s Market opens for a new season at 8 a.m. Saturday. Located across from the Black River Coliseum, the market will be open until noon. Vendors include Know-nut ‘N Ranch of Lowndes and other new and returning favorites offering a variety of produce, baked goods and crafts. The market will be open on Saturdays through the summer.

Also Saturday, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., will be a bike and hike competition at the Wolf Creek Trail. The goal is to complete as many laps as possible within a specific time category: six-hour solo; 12-hour solo; or 12-hour team. The Wolf Creek Trail is a 13-mile loop through the national forest.

— Live performance, 7-11 p.m. May 19 WHERE Forum FiftyFifty COST $10 WHAT Dead Birds Can Fly with Videotape and Cyberstein.

— Run Forrest Run through Downtown PB, 8:30 a.m. May 20 WHERE Starts at the Memorial Baptist Church parking lot, north on South Broadway WHAT Race is sponsored by the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department. The route loops through Downtown Poplar Bluff and returns to the starting point.

— Wolf Creek 6/12 hour bike and hike, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. May 20 WHERE Wolf Creek Trail WHAT The aim of the game complete as many laps as possible in the nominated time category you are racing in: 6hr Solo; 12hr Solo; and 12hr Team. — Teen crafting, 4:30 p.m. May 22 WHERE Poplar Bluff library Main Branch WHAT Supplies will be provided for grades 7-12 to make buttons.

— Flag retirement ceremony, 6 p.m. May 25 WHERE Puxico Veterans Park WHAT Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 4370 will be hold a flag retirement ceremony in Veterans Park in Puxico on May 25th. If you have a flag that needs to be retired please drop them on at the Puxico VFW Hall.

— D&D at the Library, 2-5 p.m. May 27 WHERE Poplar Bluff library, Main Branch WHAT A group of young demigods go on a couple more adventures in order to hone their skills before facing the real world.

— Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. May 31. WHERE Online sessions via Zoom. COST Free. WHAT Learn to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12-18, how to provide initial help, and how to help connect them to appropriate support.
