Helen J. Hartzog, 97, passed away May 7, 2023 at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

She was born Jan. 14, 1926 in Cash, Arkansas, daughter of the late John Hillis and Almedia Wheaton Hillis.

Helen had worked as a personnel officer for the U.S. Government Civil Service before retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston, former president of the Business of Professional Women’s Club of Blytheville, Arkansas, and enjoyed being a seamstress, cooking and traveling the world.

Survivors include one son, Michael (Bobbie) Huff of Holiday Island, Arkansas; one daughter, Saundra Swarts of Middletown, Illinois; one sister, Carol (Jesse) Kirk of Sikeston, Missouri; three grandsons, Michael (Lashun) Huff of Ada, Oklahoma, James (Beth) Huff of Wynne, Arkansas, and T J (Rachel) Swarts of Lincoln, Illinois; two granddaughters, Amanda (Derek) Keith of Greenview, Illinois and Samantha (Jason) Maxheimer of Lincoln, Illinois; 12 great-grandchildren, Michael L. Huff, Evan Huff, Shaver Huff, William Huff, Tanner Huff, Quentin Keith, Jessa Maxheimer, Kevin Maxheimer, Tristin Maxheimer, Kody Swarts, Shelby Swarts, and Austin Swarts; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Evan Huff; her second husband, Jack Hartzog; and one brother, Sterling Hillis.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 11, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley, Missouri.
