Sylvia Rita Miller, 63, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

Sylvia was born on Oct. 8, 1959, in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Dr. Francis and Lucia Balciunas Tarvydas of Edina, Missouri.

She attended the St. Joseph Catholic School in Edina and graduated from the Knox County High School in the Class of 1977. She earned a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and an MBA in health services administration from the University of Illinois-Springfield.

On May 24, 1980, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Sylvia married Robert E. “Bob” Miller of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Sylvia was a Registered Pharmacist and Health Services Administrator, serving in many pharmacies in the Quincy, Illinois area, in both retail and nursing home pharmacies. In her career, Sylvia was dedicated to her patients and worked tirelessly to make differences in their lives. She retired in 2020 with nearly 40 years of service.

She was a member of the Baring Country Club in Baring, Missouri.  Sylvia enjoyed gourmet dining and cooking for family and friends. She traveled extensively, especially to Door County, Wisconsin, Michigan, Lithuania and Latvia and most recently Hawaii.  Her particular passions included interior design, decorating her home for holidays, and shopping.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Bob Miller of Quincy; daughters, Alexandria Miller of Carthage, Illinois, Marcela Miller and Brigita Miller, both of Quincy; a sister, Vilia and George Sauerberg of Iowa City, Iowa; nephews, Ryan and Abby Tarvydas of Hannibal, Missouri, and Ted and Julie Sauerberg of Aurora, Colorado; great-nieces, Skie, Abiah and Ksavera Tarvydas and Breckyn and Allie Sauerberg; great-nephew, Tait Sauerberg; mother-in-law, Melba Miller Amarine of Poplar Bluff; many extended family members in Lithuania and Latvia, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Francis and Lucia Tarvydas; brother, Richard Tarvydas; and a nephew, Richard Tarvydas II.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Edina.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Sylvia Miller may be left to the Knox County Cancer Fund, or the Special Olympics. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
