Dorothy Hover Atwell of Neelyville passed away, April 18, 2023, at Cedargate Nursing Home with Legacy Hospice from complications of COVID.

Dorothy was born to John A. Hover and Purma Morrow Hover Jan. 8, 1939, at Taft, Missouri. She graduated from Neelyville High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, Johnny Charles Atwell, Sr. They were married 59 years and 11 months.

She was hard working and was 78 years old at the time of her last paying job. She was employed throughout the years at Gossard Garment Factory, Basler Electric, Westwood Hills Nursing Home, and American In Home Service Agency.

She was a member of the Neelyville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading, watching westerns, and being with her family.

Dorothy is survived by siblings, Ronald Hover of Harviell, Missouri, Shirley Payne (Jim) of St. Peters, Missouri, and Nellie Kirkley (Tom) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; children, Debra Parish (Gary), Cassondra Gilmore, Johnny Charles Atwell, Jr. “Charlie”, and Sirena Jones (Chad), all of Neelyville, Missouri; and in-laws, Sam (Fran) Atwell and Annette Epps of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Sandra Graham of Hertford, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jeffrey Gilmore (Misty), Amanda Moore, Elizabeth Parker (Justin), Brena Atwell, and Michaela Jones (Lucas Ward); great-grandchildren, Alexandra Gilmore (Triston Uhl), Hunter, Hank, and Hestin Gilmore, Jackson and Maclaren Moore, and Ellison, Layton and Harlan Beaird; great-great-grandchild, Evander Uhl.

She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Nathaniel and Earline Atwell, brother Donald Hover; sisters-in-law, Sue Hover and Geraldine Hover; brothers-in-law, Robert Epps and Thomas Graham; and granddaughter, Sheri Ann Gilmore.

Services will be held at Fowler and Sons in Neelyville on Friday, April 21 with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and the service following at 3 p.m. Interment will be in the Kinsey Cemetery in Harviell, Missouri.
