Area could see record high temperatures

The National Weather Service has issued the following advisory:

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM CDT SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees expected.

* WHERE...All of southeast Missouri. A portion of far west

Kentucky, including the counties of Fulton, Hickman, Carlisle,

Ballard, and Graves. A portion of extreme southwest Illinois,

including the counties of Pulaski, Alexander, Union, Jackson,

and Perry.

* WHEN...From 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat

illnesses to occur.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Sunday`s high heat and humidity is the

beginning of a prolonged heat wave that will impact the region.

Several days of heat index values above 100 degrees are expected

this week. The effects of heat stress can increase with

prolonged exposure over consecutive days.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out

of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young

children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles

under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When

possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or

evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat

stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when

possible. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and

shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
