Poplar Bluff police are asking for help identifying a suspect in a string of recent business burglaries.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a person of interest after a string of burglaries at five area businesses over the last few days.

Since Monday, five businesses have been broken into, said Detective Dan Mustain.

“It seem like most are on Westwood, but one was on Pine as well, so it’s the main thoroughfares,” he said. “Business 67 and 60 is where they’ve been focused on.”

Mustain said the same method of operation has been used at each break-in, leading him to suspect they were all done by the same person.

“They’re prying open doors and just pilfering through stuff,” he reported.

All the break-ins also have occurred in the early morning hours, he said.

Two businesses have had cash stolen, Mustain said.

The first break-in was reported at Regional Finance on Monday, and the next morning, Bread+Butter reported a burglary.

“We had video on that one, and they were there for a couple hours,” Mustain said.

On Wednesday, Bluff Tax & Accounting reported a break-in.

SEMO Prosthetics reported a burglary on Thursday morning, and Heights Finance reported one that day as well.

“I don’t know why they’re focusing on the finance places,” Mustain said.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department has posted on its Facebook page a still image from the video at Bread+Butter and is hoping someone will be able to identify the subject.

Until then, Mustain recommends business owners take precautions to protect their assets.

“Definitely, if you don’t have surveillance cameras, get them, and consider getting an alarm,” he said.

He also noted making sure locks are secure and the parking lot is well lit are important.

He also asks for residents and motorists to be vigilant.

“If people are out driving around in the late night or early morning hours and they see someone suspicious, call it in,” he urged.
