Geneva Speer

Geneva Maxine Speer, 96, of Gipsy, passed away Nov. 10, 2021 at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico, Missouri.

She was born June 26, 1925 in McGee, Missouri, the daughter of Silas and Melvina Hefner Whitener.

Geneva had worked at Blackburn Electrical in St. Louis. She was a member of Bright Prospect Church near McGee. She lived her life as a faithful Christian woman.

Geneva and Herschul Speer were united in marriage on Feb. 6, 1942 in Marble Hill and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1994.

Survivors include: a son, Herschul (Dee) Speer, Jr. of Oahu, Hawaii; a daughter, Priscilla (Ronnie) Talley of Gipsy; a brother, Ray (Dorothy) Whitener of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Sharon Ballew of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Lisa (David) Dean and Hercshul Speer, III.; two step-grandchildren, Shannon Nacua and Kaeo Nacua; two great-grandchildren, Avery Bell and Larry Bell; two step-great-grandchildren, Hanola Nacua and Kalea Nacua; two great-great-grandchildren, Colten Bell and Landra Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Patricia Ann Schatte; a brother, George Whitener; and two sisters, Helen Wilhelm and Bonita Magill.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 at McGee New Hope Church in McGee. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Donnie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will follow at McGee New Hope Cemetery in McGee.
