Flood watch for area after overnight heavy rainfall

Thursday, October 29, 2020

A flood watch remains in effect for the area after nearly 3 inches of rain fell from Wednesday into Thursday, with more precipitation expected.

The Poplar Bluff Regional Business Airport reported the heaviest amount, 1.65 inches, fell between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday. Close to another inch fell before 7 a.m.

The flood watch remains active until 1 p.m. today.

Emergency management agency directors in Butler and Ripley counties say no damage has been reported due to flooding.

The Butler County Highway Department is looking for any road washouts and will address those, said Butler County EMA Director Robbie Myers, and there has been some normal flooding in low lying areas.

Close to another half inch of rain could fall before 7 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
