FREE ACCESS: Flooding possible as rain continues

Tuesday, September 1, 2020

A flood advisory has been issued for Butler, Carter, Ripley and Wayne counties through 12:30 today.

The National Weather Service reports the current storm system dumped one-half inch of rain near Doniphan in approximately 15 minutes.

At 9:19 a.m., radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area, according to the NWS.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or

ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue today and tonight. The heaviest rainfall is expected over southeast Missouri and southwest Kentucky, where some isolated pockets of flash flooding could occur, the NWS reports.

Thunderstorms will remain likely Wednesday and Wednesday night,

when more rounds of heavy rain are possible. Thunderstorm potential will end late in the work week as a strong cold front passes.

Thunderstorms return to the forecast Sunday night and Monday, with

lightning and heavy rain are the main storm hazards.
