Dear Editor:

Missouri House Democrats are ON THE ROAD

Today (Sunday) the leaders of the Democratic caucus of the Missouri legislature visited voters in Poplar Bluff as part of an old fashioned bus tour.

The group consisted of Democratic House minority leader Crystal Quade and House Democratic ranking member Peter Meredith. Accompanying them are House members Doug Beck, Doug Clemons, Keri Ingle, Ian Mackey and Sarah Unsicker. They were joined by Jonathan Kessler who is the 8th district chairman of the Democratic Party.

Poplar Bluff was one of eight stops in Southeast Missouri. The legislators are interested in hearing what the people of our part of the state are thinking and are listening to their concerns.

They hope to take what they hear back to Jefferson City and incorporate that knowledge to help draft legislation to help our state. Democrats have supported the ballot provision to say NO to right to work. They support increases in minimum wage. They support getting dark money out of politics and support the Clean Missouri referendum.

Currently, Democrats support the expansion of Medicaid for Missouri. This has been opposed by Republicans for years. Democrats are supporting efforts to get this on the ballot next year. Our major discussion regarded how to talk with citizens about the issues that would benefit rural areas. Democratic policies closely align with the needs of our community. Jobs and education and access to medical care are vitally important.

In their stops, the team has been well received and has received good media attention.

Respectfully submitted,

Patricia Scott
