Support victims and change the culture

Thursday, September 27, 2018

I remember the spectacle of watching Anita Hill testifying regarding sexual harassment in the 90s. Sadly not much seems to have changed. Women continue to be disbelieved, humiliated, taunted, threatened and denied a full and complete hearing. Today Dr. Ford has made credible allegations regarding Judge Kavanaugh. She's been called a liar, confused, mixed up, and had her life threatened and turned upside down. She has asked for an FBI investigation to interview herself, Kavanaugh and the third party in the room, along with pertinent records and other evidence. A person who fabricated this story would not do so. Kavanaugh it would seem would be eager to do the same if he was absolutely sure of his innocence. In fact it is obvious he has tried to throw the scent onto another third party, effectively accusing another in a mistaken identity ruse.

The primary argument used against the veracity of Dr. Ford is that the incident happened decades ago. If this were pertinent then how do we explain the extraordinary investigations and the weight given to testimony and revelations given by male and female survivors of Catholic priest molestations? Those too happened decades ago and have rocked the Church. And the most striking similarity is the fact that the Church hierarchy disbelieved and covered up for the perpetrators. If this isn't fully vetted the same condemnation should be leveled against the Republican senate Committee as has been leveled against the hierarchy of the church who enabled pedophiles access to victims. And rightly so.

Do the right thing! And encourage your elected officials to support victims and change the culture which has led to the multitude of misery and despair victims suffer.
